LAS VEGAS — Martha Waggoner, the News Media Guild’s First Vice President, began her four-year term as the International Chairperson of The Newspaper Guild Monday. Waggoner was sworn by CWA Secretary-Treasurer Annie Hill, along with all of the other officers of NMG’s parent union.
The International Chairperson is the top “rank-and-file” officer of the Newspaper Guild. The chair is a voting member of the TNG’s Sector Executive Council, and presides over all meetings of the Council and the biennial Sector Conference.
Waggoner, a veteran newswoman at AP’s Raleigh, N.C. bureau, also served as chairperson the the rank-and-file negotiating committee in the recently concluded NMG-AP contract negotiations.
