Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen told News Media Guild leaders last week that he agreed with Associated Press that the union’s new “fixed cost” pension plan proposal was innovative and sensibly addressed the employer’s concerns. Cohen, joined by Newspaper Guild President Bernie Lunzer, also discussed mobilization and communication strategies to support Guild workers in the U.S., U.K., and in Mexico, where AP staffers are seeking bargaining with the not-for-profit, multinational news cooperative.

At the TNG meeting, NMG First Vice President Martha Waggoner was unanimously elected to a four-year term as International Chairperson of The Newspaper Guild. It is the highest rank-and-file position in TNG.
