ELECTION SET FOR REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY ALTERNATE POSITIONS

The Guild is holding a special election to fill six vacancies for alternate members of the Guild’s Representative Assembly. The alternate moves up to the delegate position on the RA if a vacancy occurs.

The positions are in the following regions: AP Broadcast, AP New York Non-Editorial, AP South, AP Southwest, AP West and the AP Washington Area.

The nominating period opens on May 3, 2013, and closes on May 11, 2013. The deadline for the receipt of candidate willingness-to-serve statements is May 16, 2013. Ballots for the vacant alternate positions and a referendum will be mailed on May 21, 2013.

The ballots will be collected and tallied by the Elections Committee on June 19, 2013. Nominations may be made by petition of 10 Guild members in good standing in the district of the candidate, or by branch or chapter action (i.e., at a meeting).

The RA districts are as follows:

_AP Broadcast: AP editorial unit members working for the Broadcast News Center, regardless of location, except those assigned to the AP Television department.

_AP New York Non-Editorial: AP editorial unit members working in classifications other than Newsperson or Artist in New York City. Any New York City editorial unit member may nominate a non-editorial member for this post.

_AP South: AP editorial unit members working in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

_AP Southwest: AP editorial unit members working in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

_AP Washington: AP editorial unit members working in the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

_AP West: AP editorial unit members working in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii and Nevada.

The NMG Election Rules state: Use of NMG stationery for campaign literature is prohibited. Upon their request, one campaign statement from each qualified EC, TNG Convention or RA candidate shall be sent with the list of candidates mailed to all branch chairpersons for bulletin board posting. Such statements of no more than 200 words shall arrive at the NMG office no later than the deadline set for candidate acceptance, five days after the close of the nominating period.

WiReport shall print these candidate statements, if provided, in all annual elections, and special elections if possible, prior to the mailing of ballots. WiReport stories should strive for equal space or balance about candidates in election stories, and solicit statements, background and photographs from all candidates.
