Meet the NMG Executive Committee:

Martha Waggoner, president and reporter in Raleigh; John Braunreiter, first vice president and customer support in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Vin Cherwoo, secretary-treasurer and reporter in New York sports; Barbara Rodriguez, second vice president  and reporter in Des Moines; Steve Karnowski, fourth vice president and reporter in Minneapolis; and Jill Bleed, fifth vice president and breaking news staffer in Little Rock, Arkansas. Also pictured are Carla Johnson, chair of the Guild’s Representative Assembly, and Guild administrator Kevin Keane.

Jill is also chair of the Guild’s professionalism and training committee, and Barbara is chair of our human rights and equity committee.

Not pictured is Don Ryan, photographer in Portland, Oregon, and third vice president. Don was unable to attend the Executive Committee meeting Feb. 5-6 in New York City where the photo and video were shot.

Thanks to Carla for the video and to Vin for the photo. We got updates from our new internal recruiter, AJ Connelly, who used to work for AP as a New York business reporter, and from Malcolm Emerich, the external organizer hired by the NewsGuild-CWA.

As you know, the News Media Guild organized the staff of the Guardian-US last year, and we’re now bargaining a first contract. We’re also looking for other non-union shops that would like to work with the benefits of a union contract. Let one of us know if you have any leads.
