AP offers revised health insurance proposal

The Associated Press presented a revised health insurance proposal that eliminates the high-deductible plan for the life of the contract and maintains the premium plan.

The proposal, presented during bargaining Wednesday with the News Media Guild, also allows spouses/domestic partners with employer-provided insurance to stay on the AP plan as primary coverage if that insurance isn’t expected to meet the minimum value standard under the Affordable Care Act or if the employer provides no subsidy for the plan.

In addition, the new proposal eliminates the requirement that spouses on the AP health plan also participate in the wellness program. The company proposed no changes in the wellness plan for staffers.

The Guild will share the revised proposal with its health-care consultant for his analysis.
