It shows how much staff health care cost could escalate under AP’s contract proposal, and how much of its health costs AP wants to shift onto its underpaid, overworked staff. On average, that would amount to more than $11,600 per employee from 2014 through 2016.
This would dramatically cut our standard of living, and would actually reduce AP’s health costs for Guild-covered staffers by the third year.
None of us can afford this, particularly when the company is offering raises that almost definitely will not keep pace with inflation. And if AP gets this, it will drive out lots of talented journalists and other staffers.
