Contract Info

YOUR CONTRACT is the centerpiece of your rights at work. It's the product of more than 50 years of work by your colleagues to improve wages, benefits, and working conditions.  The contract is negotiated by your elected representatives, and must be ratified by a secret ballot vote of union members only. It is enforced when a staffer, acting through a local shop steward, files a grievance. Most grievances are settled at the local level. If not, they proceed to the national level. If the union and the employer can't reach a settlement, the case goes to an arbitrator, a neutral third party who will make a binding decision.
