Michael Mazzo, a 26 year veteran technician who works in The Associated Press Richmond bureau, has been elected without opposition to the AP Technology seat on the Guild’s Executive Committee. The EC is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the union.
The seat became vacant when John Braunreiter of the Milwaukee bureau was elected as the union’s secretary-treasurer.
Mazzo was a shop steward in East Brunswick, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia as well as a regional delegate for the southeast until Local 1314 merged with the News Media Guild. He attended union leadership classes at the Cornell Institute of Labor Relations.
Braunreiter said, “Mike is well respected by both AP and his colleagues and experienced in dealing with union matters at the local level. We are lucky to have him representing technicians on the Executive Committee.”
