Members voted 143-3 in favor of several changes, which were proposed by the union’s leadership.
The changes include providing an expedited grievance appeals procedure and opening the two New York City Representative Assembly seats to any New York City member. Previously, one seat each was held by an editorial and non-editorial staffer working at AP headquarters.
The changes also give NMG’s Elections Committee, rather than the Executive Committee, the power to rule on whether election rules have been violated. A final change allows for votes by conference call or meetings for small units within NMG.
Seven ballots were not counted because they were not enclosed in the secret ballot envelope, no vote indicated on the ballot or the outer envelope was unsigned.
